Virtual Hiring Hall

Virtual Hiring Hall (VHH) was built and deployed on a Microsoft .NET environment, with the implementation done in the C# programming language. The application employs the following technologies: Microsoft LINQ for database query language and data transformations, Microsoft SQL Server as the database management system, Microsoft SQL Server - Reporting Services for reporting capabilities, Microsoft Internet Information Services as the Web server and Microsoft Windows Server as the deployment OS platform. In addition, the following third party technologies were integrated into the project: Ajax controls, digital certificates for HTTPS secured transfer and VoiceXML 2.0 for IVR integration.

The application provides support for:

• Searching, viewing and updating status of union members from the union database
• Searching, viewing and updating status of union contractors from the union database
• Creating job requests for contractors in need of a workforce
• Automatic job filling and auditing
• Flexible reporting

The application is integrated with an Interactive Voice Response (IVR) system to support phone-based communication between the union members, contractors, and VHH.

Security - HTTPS secured transfer based on SSL/TLS and role based access control.

Confidentiality of Data - Passwords are not stored in plain text. Sensitive information is encrypted before being stored in the database, and information is filtered on the screen based on user roles.

Audit Trail Capabilities - All changes to the database, together with the authors of the changes, are recorded for future reference. All IVR conversations are recorded and stored.
